Picking Out Fastway Weight Distribution System for Trailer that Weighs 6,000 lbs

Question:

What is the weight difference is the 6,000 lb and the 8,000 lb e2 WDH? I am right at the rating of the 6,000 lb hitch. My dry tongue wgt is 600 lbs. Should I step up to the 8,000/800 hitch?

With weight distribution systems you want to go with the system with a tongue weight range where the loaded tongue weight of your trailer falls right in the middle. So since you have a dry tongue weight of 600 lbs you'd at least need the # FA92-00-0800 which has a range of 400 to 800 lbs. But that's assuming your loaded weight is very close to the dry tongue weight. When loaded you may be better off with the part # FA92-00-1000 which has a tongue weight range of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs. I'd be willing to bet this is the kit you'd need.

You also have to keep in mind that the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle counts as tongue weight too.
