Thule Key Will Not Operate Sears X-Cargo Lock Core

Question:

Thank you. I have the Sears Sport SV 20. Will that same replacement lock work for that box as well? I tried the keys I ordered (n2802) but that didn’t work. I also lubricated the lock with WD-40 but still no-go. I don’t think it has been used for 5+ years so it may have rusted. I get a little bit of movement but not enough to unlock/lock. So I think it would be best to replace the lock core if possible.

The Replacement Key for Thule and Sportrack Racks and Carriers part # THKEYN2802 will work with the Sears X-Cargo Carrier if it has a lock core with "2802" stamped into it. If you have verified that the key number matches the lock core number then you might want try and spray a lubricate inside the lock core to make sure there is no debris that is stopping the lock from turning.

If the spray lubricant does not work you will need to replace the lock core and housing with the Replacement Lock Core and Key for SportRack Explorer Cargo Box part # SR03807.

I would agree that replacing the locking mechanism will be your best option and for that the Replacement Lock Core and Key for SportRack Explorer Cargo Box part # SR03807 could work for you. The issue is that the exact replacement lock housing for your Sears Sport SV 20 is no longer available but customers have been able to use the above with success which you can see from the attached review. The mounting holes that your existing lock uses will just need to be plugged as the new lock will not retain these. It will use a nut attached to the lock cylinder to sandwich itself to the cargo box.
