Yakima Hanging Bike Rack Recommendation that Can be Used at Rear of 5th Wheel

Question:

I have a 5th wheel rv with a 2inch frame receiver hitch and wondering why this hitch is not 5th wheel compliant. I want to use the Yakima bike rack with both my 5th wheel and tow truck.

Yakima has bike racks that are rated to be used at the rear of a trailer, but at the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that type of use.

Your best option for a bike rack that is rated for fifth wheel use it the Yakima LongHaul part # Y02476. This is a 4-bike hanging rack but you'll notice the bracket that holds the shank to the upright mast of the rack is reinforced quite a bit.
