Can Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera be Plugged Into 7-Way From ETBC7 Kit
Question:
Hello, Does this kit include a plug in the back of the 7-way socket or are the leads hardwired to the socket? Will this allow the installation of the Hopkins back up and trailer alignment camera HM50002 as a simple plug in like it is designed? thanks

Expert Reply:
The 7-Way connector included with the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 features spliced-in wires at the back of the connector and not a plug (also referred to as a US car connector).
In order for the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera # HM50002 to be installed as a plug-and-play application the vehicle needs to be equipped with a factory/OEM 7-Way that uses a standard US Car Connector plug. The camera is designed to plug in-line with the OEM 7-Way (to retain use of the connector) so it cannot install in this manner with the ETBC7 Kit.
Having an OEM/factory 7-Way on the vehicle definitely allows for an easier installation but keep in mind that it is not required. The Hopkins Backup Camera can still be installed without an OEM 7-Way by simply cutting the OEM plug on the camera and hardwiring it to the reverse light circuit wire on your vehicle (red wire on the camera) and to the ground wire behind the reverse lights (black wire on camera).
I have attached the complete installation instructions that you can also check out.
