Do the Hubs/Drums Need Changed When Replacing the Braking Assemblies

Question:

As far as I can tell I have the old style Hayes brakes with the red wires. I think the drums are in good shape but will they work with the replacement brakes? Thanks again

To summarize, you have 12" x 2" Hayes Braking Assemblies with round magnets. If the magnets have failed then you would need to replace the entire braking assemblies as they no longer offer these magnets as replacement parts. Therefore, I recommend the Hayes/AL-KO Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # 185100-150 which use a five bolt brake mounting flange.

If the hub/drums that you have now are not out of round then you can reuse them with the Hayes/AL-KO Electric Trailer Brake Kit. You would not need to replace them as well unless you felt they were worn out. There is a tool to check if they are out of round or you can take them to your local mechanic for inspection.
