Is the Blue Wire Needed in the 7-Way RV Connector when Installing the Prodigy RF Brake Controller

Question:

The instruction sheet for the RF controller shows pin #2 on the tow vehicle plug to be connected to something using a blue wire. It is labeled brake wireinch or something similar. Is the blue wire even necessary, since this controller is not dependant on getting a signal from a vehicle mounted controller? If the wire is needed, what does it connect to?

Expert Reply:

The # 2 terminal in the 7-Way vehicle side trailer connector wiring diagram, in the Prodigy RF brake controller instructions, is the electric brake output circuit, and is only needed for an in cab mounted brake controller. This circuit is not required for use of the Prodigy RF brake controller, # TK94FR. If you were to use an in cab trailer brake controller the blue wire would be ran to the blue wire exiting the back of the brake controller.

The Prodigy RF only requires that the # 4 terminal in a 7-Way RV connector have a constant 12 volt power source when towing, and the normal stop/turn, tail and ground connections will be required for proper operation of the Prodigy RF, trailer lighting functions and grounding the trailer electrical system.
