The first thing you need on your 2018 Honda CR-V, as far as wiring goes, is a 4-Way Flat connector. I recommend going with the Tekonsha T-One # 118741 if you don't already have one as it fits both FWD and AWD models plus it has the highest amp rating over the Curt option.
Then to install a brake controller you need to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This gives you both a 4-Way and a 7-Way connector as well as all of the wiring and connectors that you need for the installation.
For a brake controller I highly recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR because it can be installed virtually anywhere and gives you user-control and proportional controlling options. Under user-control operation the brakes on your trailer will be applied at a predetermined strength everytime your brake pedal is pressed. The proportional option applies your trailer brakes at the same time and with the same amount of intensity as the brake pedal in your CR-V.
If you don't already have a trailer hitch installed then I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76128 because it is the strongest trailer hitch we offer plus it comes with a mounting flange to connect the ETBC7.
To complete your towing setup you also need a ball mount kit like the etrailer.com # 989900 which comes with a 1-7/8" and a 2" hitch ball as well as a ball mount with a 3/4" rise/2" drop and another ball mount with a 2-3/4" rise/4" drop. You do need to reference the attached ball mount article to make sure that these are the best choice for your towing application though.
Attached are some review videos and a picture of the Tow-Pro Elite installed in the accessories place on a Nissan Titan so you can get a good look at how natural it looks.
