Can the Standard Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Carry a 55-60 lb Bike if 2nd Bike is Lightweight
Question:
I have a beach cruiser that weighs around 55/60 pounds that Id like to transport with this rack. My partners bike is an extremely light road bike, so the total weight of our bikes would be well under the 100 pound limit. Is my bike too heavy for this rack? I would really rather avoid paying the substantially higher price of the Electric Bike version of this rack.

I do see where you are coming from, but the wheel hoops for the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 # HR1450Z have only been rated for up to a 50 lb bike. So it has less to do with overall weight as it does with the individual components for carrying each bike.
I spoke with my contact at Hollywood Racks and he confirmed that if your bike is over the 50 lb weight rating then you would need to use a rack that is rated for heavier individual bikes like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE for E-bikes # HLY84FR which can accommodate 2 bikes weighing up to 80 lbs.
An alternative bike rack that allows you to carry up to a 2 bikes weighing 60 lbs is the Saris Freedom # SA4412B. It does use cradles that secure the bikes by the down tube though so if your bike(s) have a down tube that has a larger diameter than a standard bike it may not work.
