Recommended Roof Rack for Stand Up Paddleboard on 2006 Nissan Xtrail

Question:

Hi! Im trying to find a roof rack for a 2006 Xtrail. The car doesnt have anything on the roof - no side-rails. Ive seen in one of your past replies the recommendation for Thule AeroBlade. My question is whether the stock Xtrail has the hidden attachment points that I can bolt onto or if Im going to have to put some holes myself. My mom in her fifties wants to get into paddle-boarding and I feel compelled to enable her to do that. Any help is much appreciated!

Since your mom doesn't have the raised factory side rails on her 2006 Nissan Xtrail, it must have the flush mounted rails. The Thule AeroBlade Edge Roof Rack # TH7602-TH7602 and Fit Kit # THKIT3063 which will bolt into the factory locations hidden in the flush mounted rails. I've attached the installation details to assist. I then recommend the Thule SUP Taxi XT Stand-Up Paddleboard Carrier - Roof Mount - 2 Boards # TH810001 and have attached a video to assist.

I haven't heard of these vehicles having a completely naked roof, but if that is the case, you can use the SeaSucker Board Carrier - Vacuum Cup Mounted - 1 Surfboard or Paddleboard # 298-BX1806 without any drilling. I do not recommend drilling into your roof, and this system is extremely strong with each of the 6 vacuum cups having a 210 lb pull strength so it can handle highway travel without any issues. If you use this system I recommend the SeaSucker Cable Anchor for Cable Lock - Window Mounted # 298-BA0010 and cable lock # e98891.

Finally, you may want to consider the Malone SuperiorSling Shoulder Harness for Stand-Up Paddleboards # MPG359 or the SeaSucker Clip and Grip Paddleboard Carrier - Vacuum Mount - Black # 302-5461 for the carry down to the water. If lifting on or off the roof is an issue you may consider the Telesteps # TE97FR to give better view and angles.
