Alternative to Replacing OEM RV Steps with 2-Step Pull Out Step

Question:

The Limpart 2 step assembly says mounting plate dimensions are 25 1/4. My dimensions are 26 1/4. Can I use 1/2 spacers to make up difference? My trailer is a coleman 16 fsb Lantern, 2018

The 2018 Dutchmen Coleman Lantern LT 16FB travel trailer appears to have a single-step OEM entry step. If you want to convert this to a 2-step you want to note the overall size of the step unit, the mounting hole spacing and also the retracted height. You do not want to risk reducing your ground clearance with a new 2-step unit.

Most 2-step pull-out steps for towable travel trailers are 24-inches wide like # SMFP-2100, which is the item you referenced, and like the other similar steps that appear on the linked page.

Sometimes steps are mounting with special brackets called outriggers, such as # LC301704. These can look like they are part of the steps but they are actually not. They may make it tougher to know the step unit's actual dimensions.

I recommend you avoid using spacers to mount a new step as this could cause extra stress on the mounts. An alternative to changing the OEM step is to use a simple folding platform step like the 16 x 24-inch # S-150. This appears on the other linked page.

Using a step stool like this give you the opportunity to clean off or remove your shoes to help keep the trailer interior clean and there is no risk of you having reduced ground clearance when you're traveling.
