Will the Malone Cargo12 Rooftop Cargo Box Fit a 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
Tells me that this model will fit my 2016 Subaru Outback, however, the specs state that it will fit a 25-28” crossbar spread but the spread on the standard rack on the Outback has a 30” on center spread. How is the spread on the crossbars supposed to be measured? Is it supposed to be on center or from the front of the back crossbar to the back of the front crossbar?

The correct way to measure the crossbar spacing on a vehicle is from the center of the front crossbar to the center of the rear crossbar. WIth that being said it looks like you measured correctly as the research I was able to gather indicates that you have a 30" crossbar spacing on your 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon. Therefore, the Malone Cargo12 Rooftop Cargo Box part # MPG901 will not work for you.
Instead, I recommend using the Malone Cargo16 Rooftop Cargo Box part # MPG902 which will work with a crossbar spacing of 25" to 40". This cargo box is also going to give you around 4 more cubic feet of storage space which equates to luggage for an additional 1-2 people.
I have attached a review video of the Malone Cargo16 Rooftop Cargo Box for you as well.
