7-Way Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2004 Chevy Express Van

Question:

I purchased a used 04 express 2500 and need to install a hitch and wiring. I am trying to determine what I need. I found the wiring bundled in the left rear frame rail with no connector attached, just loose wires. I could not get any voltage at the wires. The ground wire is good and shows .1 ohms. Fuses are all good with voltage going in and through the fuse. I can not find a diagram showing the wiring anywhere and can not figure why there is no voltage on running lamps, stop, or either turn signal. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I would rather not purchase parts that are not needed and I would love to save the time running all of the wires for brakes.

The only solution we have would be to install a 7-way and brake controller that bypasses the factory wiring of your Express. For that you'd want to first start with a 4-way like the part # 118392. We are aware that some models of your van have the wiring already present like it sounds like you have found but if all of the wiring isn't active we aren't aware of anyway to change that.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
