Can the Monitor Light and CoachLink be Hooked to the Same Wire

Question:

Hello, In your installation video for the SMI CoachLink 900 Wireless Transmitter and Receiver Braking Indicator Set # SM99945 in a Jeep Wrangler, you show splicing into the cold side green wire of the stop light switch relay. I have the SMI Stay-n-Play Duo installed in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it has a small LED notification light mounted on the the drivers side windshield pillar so I can monitor the toads brake status in my rearview camera. My question is: Can I use the wire that illuminates this LED light to connect the wireless transmitters red wire instead of splicing into the green wire of the stop light switch relay that you show doing in your installation video? Thanks in advance for your response.

For starters, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2015 Jeep Wrangler are very different vehicles in regards to flat-towing components so looking at installation videos on a Wrangler is just going to confuse you. The Grand Cherokee actually does not have an active stop light circuit so you will need to use the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit part # RM-751449. The Jeep Wrangler does have an active stop light switch circuit which is why you need to use the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit part # RM-88400.

The SMI CoachLink 900 Wireless Transmitter part # SM99945 and the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System part # SM99251 both tie into the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit. The red wire on the monitor light goes to the green wire on the stop light switch for the Stay-IN-Play and the black wire on the wireless transmitter also goes to the green wire on the stop light switch for the CoachLink. If you didn't want to use the monitor light you could indeed use this wire to attach to the black wire on the wireless transmitter.

I hope this helps but if not please let me know and I will see if I can offer a better explanation for you.
