Both Turn Signals Function as One After Rewiring Trailer

Question:

I finished a 95 rewiring an older snowmobile trailer. Those not rewired were two running lights not accessible ALL is working as prescribed, EXCEPT: When EITHER turn signal is actuated the OTHER signal operates aso, but AT VERY FAINT level of high beam. Can you assist me with your suggestions. I have completed the following double checks: Trailer to car ground wire is strong, I removed most of the individual ground wires and moved them to new contact points, cleaned thoroughly the trailer hitch contact surface to the ball. I am stumped, but sure it is a simple error i have made...

If I understand you correctly, the turn signal lights both operate at the same time when either the left hand turn signal or the right hand turn signal is applied. If that is the case then the only thing that could cause this is a short between the left and right hand turn signal wires. I understand the trailer was just rewired so if that is the case then the most likely culprit is in the trailer connectors. There could be strands of wire touching each other in the terminal or there could be corrosion on the trailer connectors. I would check both of these two things first and if no problems are found then you need to trace every inch of the right and left turn signals wires from the point they tie into the vehicle's tail lights to the point where they reach the light assemblies on the trailer.

If no issues are found once the above has been completed then you may be better off just taking the trailer in to have a mechanic look at it as these can often become tricky repairs that are not always obvious to the person who installed the harness themselves.
