Installation of Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers on Trailer With Axles Above Leaf Springs

Question:

While looking at this shock kit, I realized the reason my MTI 4 place Alum Snowmobile trailer is so low, the axles are actually above the leaf springs, which causing an issue in using the kit, but, has etrailer ever change the axles locations to bolt to the bottom of the axle sets, giving a much needed ground clearance, as this trailer is used for elk hunts in Colorado?

To answer your first question, we have not changed the axle locations to the bottom of the axle set with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2450.

As for the potential ground clearance issues, it is important to note there are specific directions for installing this kit with the axle above the leaf springs. It is designed to be installed with the trailer loaded but with the axles above the leaf springs you must support the trailer frame with jack stands. If this is not done the trailer will drop lower when the axle's U-bolts are removed.

Additionally, when bolting the shock absorber extension plate to the tie plate's mounting flange you must use the two holes in the middle of the extension plate; if the axle was under the leaf springs you would have the two holes in the middle of the extension plate.
