Trailer Brakes Grab at Slow Speeds but Not High Speeds

Question:

I have a Redarc electric brake controller with a manual settings dial installed in the vehicle and I have Alko electric brakes on the van. When I am travelling at speed 100kph the brakes seem to work fine once the manual setting is dialled in. But when I have to slow to say 60kph or slower, my brakes seem to grab to strongly, particularly if I am crawling along periodically braking especially at walking or running pace at a traffic jam? The interesting thing is I also have another braked trailer which seems to work perfectly smooth at slower speeds? So I am not too sure what is happening? Any expert advice would really be appreciated Please. Thanks,

It looks like you have the Redarc Tow-Pro Classic Brake Controller part EBRHV2. If the brakes are only locking up at slow speeds on a particular trailer then I recommend adjusting the gain on the brake controller knob. Try using the next lowest setting to see if that fixes the issue. Please note that the gain settings needs to be adjusted for each trailer and under different weather conditions. There is not really one settings that works best on all trailers.

Also, if you have manual adjust braking assemblies then you may want to reset the adjuster wheel. In order to do this you will want to jack up the wheel, insert a screwdriver into the access hole on the rear of the assembly toward the bottom, move the star shaped wheel clockwise or counterclockwise until you feel a constant drag on the drums.

Please let me know once the above is completed and whether or not the issue is resolved.
