Expert Reply:

Landing gear legs do typically have weld stop brackets to hold the legs securely to the welded brackets on your trailer frame. The landing gear will have a maximum capacity lift, which for the Replacement Follow Leg for Stromberg Carlson Landing Gear - 33-1/2" # LG-177201 you asked this from is 34-7/8 inches. That measurement comes from the 19-7/8 inches of physical internal travel and the 15 inch drop leg. The leg can be physically overextended or retracted too far which can cause the gears or the internal threaded rod to fail.

You can replace the internal gears with the Follow Jack Repair Kit for Stromberg Carlson Landing Gear # LG-146060 which are often replaced for that very purpose.
