Factory Brake Controller on 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Dually Not Getting Connection Signal
Question:
My wifes 2008 chevy dually has the entrigrated brake control and she has to turn the ignition on and multiple time to get it to see the trailer chevy says their end is working and I have checked and rechecked and rewired the pig tail. the only odd thing I found is that the trailer break away switch is wired to the trailers internal 12 volt power and not the pigtail. Any suggestions. I have checked all the wiring on the trailer for bad connections and did find one but it did not cure the problem

There are a few things that could be causing the problem you are having on your 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Dually with integrated brake controller.
First, the factory controller is not compatible with electric over hydraulic trailer brakes. If your trailer has hydraulic brakes, you will need to install an aftermarket brake controller. For a brake controller that is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes, I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885.
Next, you will want to check your trailer side connector for corrosion. If there is corrosion in the connector, you will want to replace the connector. I would also recommend inspecting the wiring on the trailer for any frayed or exposed wiring.
I have linked an FAQ on wiring and an FAQ on installing an aftermarket brake controller on GM trucks with factory brake controller.
