Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 2015 K-Z Sportsmen Classic 18RBT

Question:

I am considering the Reese 66557 WD kit to tow my 2015 KZ sportsmen 18RBT with my 2012 for explorer with the integrated factory tow package. The trailer tongue weight is 336 lbs, and the frame rails are 2x3. I see the 66557 lists the maximum frame rail width as 1 3/4. My question is can I simply swap the WD kit frame plate mounting bolts for longer ones to accommodate my 2inch frame rails? Are there any other issues with using the 66557 with my 2012 explorer and 2017 KZ Sportsmen 18RBT? Thanks in Advance

For starters, the tongue weight figure of 336 lbs that you listed for your 2015 K-Z Sportsmen Classic 18RBT is the dry tongue weight. When the trailer is loaded it will likely be more. You also need to take into consideration any weight stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. With that in mind, I suspect the total tongue weight of your towing setup will exceed the 400lb capacity of the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System part # 66557 therefore, I recommend upgrading to the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System part # RP66558 which is rated for 400 - 600 lbs of total tongue weight.

In order to use the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System on a trailer frame that is 2" wide, you would need to obtain an additional two 1/2-13 x 4-1/2" Grade 5 Hex Head Bolts which can be found at a local hardware store. For a hitch ball, you will want to use part # 63845 for 2" or part # 63847 for 2-5/16".
