How to Remove Synthetic Rope on the Bulldog Winch Powersports Series ATV Winch # BDW15014

Question:

Hi, I was looking at one of your bulldog electric winches specifically: Bulldog Winch Electric Winch - BDW15014 and had a couple questions. Rope Length: I was looking for a rope winch with at least 100 ft of winchable rope length. That seems to be governed by how much of the thickness of rope can fit on the spool as well as the desired winching capacity. I was wondering how difficult it would be to swap out the thicker rope that comes with the winch and put in a thinner gauge rope. The pulling capacity for my application is not large and only requires about 200-250 lbs winching capacity. Thank you for your help!

I spoke with my contact at Bulldog Winch who said that removing the synthetic rope on the Bulldog Winch Powersports Series ATV Winch # BDW15014 is actually very easy. Simply run the rope all the way out and then there is a set screw that holds it in place.

You can run the rope out via free-spool or the power but it would be much quicker to run it out with the free-spool feature.

I'm not sure what your application is but you should be mindful that each time there is a layer of rope on the drum it does reduce the capacity. Since this is really only meant to be used with a 50' long rope you may consider using a different winch like the Standard Series Off-Road Winch # BDW10044 instead as it comes with 100' of synthetic rope.
