Boat Trailer Equalizer Flips with Little to No Weight on the Trailer
Question:
Hi there, My boat trailers equalizer flips occasionally. I have read a good amount of the QandA on here, and it looks like this part may help me out- the K71-655-00. Are these okay for a boat trailer that only sees fresh water? Is this the part that will help me out for my situation? Ive included some photos. Sometimes when it happens, it flips and the rear axle isnt even touching the ground while the trailer is unloaded. center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole of the equalizer is around 7 3/4. The axles are spaced 35 apart. The leaf springs are 25 long. Thank you very much

What you are experiencing is common on tandem axle trailers when little or no weight is on them. The weight compresses the suspension and would not allow this to happen, or at least not as easily. If you were to use the E-Z Flex Equalizers # K71-655-00 they would still pivot like stock equalizers though maybe not to the same degree or frequency. They can be used on boat trailers.
It appears that you might actually benefit more from slightly longer leaf springs. When everything is set up properly there should be about 1/2 inch from the center of the equalizer hole where the spring mounts to the center of the eye on the actual spring. Judging by the pictures it looks like if one side was not flipped you might be over 1/2 inch.
If you can tell me the axle capacities I can see if we have some slightly longer springs with the right capacity rating for your trailer.
