Troubleshooting Power Level Fluctuation on Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
Tekonsha brake controller p3. I recently took the brake controller from my 2001 2500hd Silverado and moved in to a 2003 2500hd. When driving the power level shoots up and down like it is applying the brake and theres no trailer connected. Any thoughts??? I can shut the vehicle off and restart it and it goes away for a bit but comes back

It sounds like there is a short somewhere in your wiring system. It could be a bad ground connection but it sounds like there is increased power over time going to your brake controller like a brake light switch going bad. I recommend using the brake controller to help determine the amount of power coming into and out of the controller when this is happening. You can use the integrated troubleshooting in your Prodigy P3 # 90195 to help with this. The attached instructions will help you get to the troubleshooting menu.
If your battery voltage is fluctuating a lot, you have a power issue with a bad alternator or a bad ground connection. Check your ground connection first to make sure you have a solid connection.
If you stoplight voltage is changing when you aren't applying your brake, then you have a stoplight issue or a short on the red wire coming into your controller.
