Raising Height of Gooseneck Trailer with Slipper Spring Suspension

Question:

I have a 91 25foot gooseneck with tandom 7k axles. The trailers sits too low and I am wanting to raise it a few inches. I was looking at this kit but it says its only for double eye springs. My trailer has slipper springs. Why wouldnt the kit work for my slipper springs? Also, when the trailer is level the equalizer is nearly touching the frame on the back. Could the equalizer be installed backwards, also noticed that the springs are different. The front axle has 6 leads and the rear has 5. Is that normal or do they need to be replaced?

When moving the leaf spring stack above the axles using an over/under conversion kit such as # K71-385-00 there is the potential for more travel in the trailer suspension. Double-eye springs are fine because they are bolted on. The excessive travel would not affect them like it would a slipper spring which is just sort of hanging on to a hanger on one end.

But there is still a solution for your trailer with slipper springs. All you have to do to get additional height with slipper springs is replace the hangers with taller hangers. We have many different options which I have linked for you. The key is to raise all the hangers in equal amounts. So for example if you switched to a hanger that was 3 inches taller in one spot you would need to use hangers that are 3 inches taller in all locations.

The older hangers will need to be cut off and the new ones welded on by a qualified professional welder. Please note that raising the height of a trailer will make it more susceptible to sway.
