Recommended Brake Controller for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

I have a 2018 Outback Wagon. Have a hitch. Now needing to install a brake controller for the trailer's brakes. What do you recommend?

We have everything you need to install a trailer brake controller on your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon.

First, if you don't already have a 4-Way connector on the vehicle, you will need to start with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467 as long as you don't have the Sport model. This is a custom harness that will install by plugging into factory ports behind the driver side trim panel. I have attached an installation video to assist.

From there (or if you already had a 4-Way) you will need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to convert the 4-Way to a fully functional 7-Way connector along with the extra wiring and circuit breakers required for installing a brake controller. I have attached the complete installation instructions that you can check out.

Then for the brake controller itself I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is an excellent proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Outback. It features an easy-to-read LCD display, storable settings, and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues.
