Husky Weight Distribution Hitch Recommendation for 3500 lb Trailer

Question:

I recently purchased a 18 Ft single axle travel trailer to pull behind my Ram 1500 pick up. The trailer has a GVWR of 3500 lbs and a tongue weight of 350 lbs. Ive been looking at the Husky Centerline TS model 32217 and the comparable Fastway E2 for a budget friendly WD Hitch with sway control. My question is: with my trailer being as light as it is, will I run into any problems buying a hitch rated for a GVWR of much higher than my trailer? Or will a hitch rated for 6000 GVWR/600 tongue be OK?

If you use a weight distribution rated too high for the loaded tongue weight of a trailer you will have a very harsh ride quality. You will want a system that has a tongue weight range that your trailer's loaded tongue weight falls right into the middle of. You should note that the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle counts as tongue weight too. The Husky Center Line system part # HT32216 would most likely be your best option as it has a tongue weight range of 400-600 lbs. By the time your towing setup is loaded this should be right what you'd need.
