How to Carry a Mobility Scooter on a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
Question:
Hi My wife and I own a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe that came with a factory installed class 1 trailer hitch. Now we are in the process of her getting a electric motorized scooter and we will be needing a carrier for transport. Right now my orig thought is getting a 1.25 in to 2 in adapter for this purpose. Any thoughs or suggestions for something better/ Im also planning to purchase the carrier at our local Harbor Freight store next Wed.

I do not recommend using a 1-1/4" to 2" trailer hitch adapter as this is going to cut your tongue weight capacity in half. The tongue weight capacity on your class I hitch is already going to be pretty low so this is just going to make matters worse. However, if you choose to do so anyway then I recommend using part # HTAD or part # HT5R as they are the only 1-1/4" to 2" trailer hitch adapters we offer that are rated for use on a class I trailer hitch.
The best option we have for you is to use a class I rated cargo carrier like the 19" X 47" Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18110. If you can't fit your scooter onto this basket then the only real option is to install a 2" trailer hitch receiver like the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 41543 as this will allow you to use a much wider variety of cargo baskets but is also the least cost effective option.
