Does Prodigy RF Brake Controller Need to Be Paired to New Vehicle
Question:
I bought the Prodigy RF Brake Controller for our 2016 Model X. It worked great and paired easily when using Curt 7-way trailer adapter. However, I just replaced our 2016 with a new 2018 Tesla Model X. The Prodigy will not pair with the car. However, I was able to get it paired using another vehicle. I was able to tow my trailer home last night but as of this morning is not paired again. I was told that by Tesla that the 12v auxiliary pin of the trailer plug is not connected on newer Model X vehicles, although it was on older cars. I was also told a workaround could be done by connecting the running-lights pin to the aux pin. That way you just turn on the Model X parking lights and get power to the brake controller. Do you know how I can connect these 2 pins? Where would be the best place to make this connection? On the male connection on the vehicle, female connection on the Curt 7 way trailer adapter, male connection on the Curt 7 way trailer adapter or female connection on the Prodigy brake controller? Can this me a permanent connection or just used when pairing the system? Do you know any other way to get the RF Brake Controller to pair with a newer 2018+ Tesla Model X which does not have 12v going to the aux pin?

The Prodigy RF should only have to pair to the remote once and you'd be good from there on out. You don't actually pair the controller to the vehicle as it's really just the remote to the controller. If your setup is losing it's pair that would indicate an issue with the RF and not your vehicle. You'd want to contact who you bought the controller from to see about having it replaced.
