Atwood Air Command Air Conditioner Runs Constantly

Question:

My unit in my trailer is constantly running. I saw on a previous answer that this isn’t supposed to happen but the rep never answered how to fix this problem. Could you please explain how to make it stop running all the time? I don’t want to have to pay a $100+ electric bill on my trailer again....

The low speed fan on your Atwood Air Command Rooftop RV Air Conditioner cannot be turned off. The fan will run at low speed continuously until the temperature inside the RV falls above or below what you have your thermostat set to. The reason for this is because the sensor for the thermostat on the the unit is located in the return air side and the fan needs to suck air through the system in order for air to pass over the sensor on the return side. Once the air falls above or below what you have your thermostat set to, the high speed fan will kick on and the compressor will run. The good news is that the amp draw on the low speed fan is very low, less than 3 amps.

If you do not want the fan to run continuously then the only option would be to install a kill switch on the power wire to the unit but I cannot recommend this.
