Brake Assembly Stud Rotates when Trying to Tighten the Nut

Question:

I have 2 new Dexter axles I am installing on a 1972 Airstream. Apparently I received the wrong nuts to bolt on the brake plates. I attempted to tighten a nut on the stud and now the stud rotates. How do I stop the stud from rotating once I get the correct nuts to install the brake plates? Also, are the threads on the new axle shock mount bolts different from the threads on the original axle? Dexter did not provide nuts to install the shocks and the nuts on the original axle dont fit!

You might be able to drive out the one stud that is rotating, coat it with red Loctite such as # LT37420, let it cure, and then give it another try. Or you could tack weld it to the brake assembly to prevent it from turning.

The threads must be a different pitch or size since the old ones are not fitting the new shocks. What I would do is take one of the new shocks or mounts or bolts with you to a hardware store and try out some nuts to find one that fits (unless Dexter can provide the correct ones for you). I would go with Grade 5 or better nuts considering the application.

So you have a part number for the shocks used? I might be able to look up what size is required.
