Reese Chain Hanger for Weight Distribution Systems Installation Options
Question:
I purchased the clamp on chain hangers from you about a week ago and just got around to installing them on my V nose toy hauler. My question: On the right side as you are looking at the trailer from the nose, the mounting point that will give me a straight downinch chain approximately 31 has an electrical junction box with all the 12v wiring routed in and out. No way to move the box without having to re-wire the entire junction as there is no playinch in the wiring. This forced me to mount the clamp on bracket at the rear of the box or about 32. When I hook up the chains they are angled forward slightly and I have to hook the chain at 6 links rather than the recommended 5 to achive level truck-trailer. I dont see any obstructions that the chains could crashinch into. Should I be concerned? I havent had the chance to pull the trailer hooked up with the WD hitch yet and failed to take a picture to further explain what I am talking about.. If this is a big issue, my only option will be to have the outer brackets welded to the frame. Otherwise, I am happy with the clamp on kit.. very easy to install and set up excluding the mounting location issue,

I spoke with my contact at Reese and he informed me that the way you set up your weight distribution system with the Chain Hangers # RP58306 is perfectly fine. He said that every trailer will have slight differences between them and since you are at 32 inches and the recommendation is approximately 31 inches you are fine.
He also said that having to use 6 links on the chain is fine as well. He said you will just not want to go with less than 5 inches as a rule of thumb.
I attached an FAQ article on weight distribution systems for you to check out also.
