How to Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer with 2018 Ford F-150 5-1/2 foot Bed

Question:

Have 2018 F150 5 1/2foot Bed, 4 door , is there an application that would allow you to pull a 5th wheel that will have the clearance? With that said, if you need measurements to determine this, is it possible to provide measurements when I dont have the trailer, obviously I not going purchase it without knowing whether or not this is possible to tow it. My other concerns is the cantilever design of the Sidewinder, its like a bridge, is the weight 100 over the axle Hitch location or between the hitch and trailer? Does this change any characteristics of towing - weight shifting and swaying issues? Do I have to purchase a trailer that has the front tampered corners angled back? Does Sidewinder work with a BandW Patriot 16K?

For a truck bed shorter than 6 feet in length one option that we recommend highly is a Sidewinder pin box like the part # ST400-SW16K that you referenced.

Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.

Sidewinders do not move where the weight of the trailer is centered in the truck bed either. It's always right over the center of the rear axle. These also allow for easier trailer backing up and better tracking around corners. All around they are the best option even when turning clearance isn't needed.

You can use the B and W Patriot hitch like the # BWRVK3200 too with a Sidewinder. You just need the wedge part # SWW-06 and you'd be set.

Now to install the hitch in the bed of your truck requires a rail kit. For that you'd want a custom install kit as it will minimize drilling and install time. You'd want the Reese part # RP56034-53 which is custom fit for your truck as well as is a fit with the Reese hitch.
