Great question. Almost all landing gear includes both bolting and welding. The brackets are welded to the trailer and then the legs have weld stops where the brackets fit and are bolted into place. Most landing gear is fairly similar in the weld stop locations, so new legs don't normally require replacing the brackets however there are some that require cutting off the old brackets and welding new ones in place.

For instance the Lippert Electric Landing Gear Set - Weld On - 37" Lift - 6,000 lbs # LC333964 has the standard weld stop locations at 17-1/2 inches outside to outside and 15-1/2 inches internally. I've attached a couple photos to assist. Most of the time when you replace a lead or follow leg individually, you simply need to match the brand for the threaded pitch to match.
