Troubleshooting Prodigy P2 # 90885 with Inconsistent Display
Question:
I have two P2s installed, one moved to a couple different trucks all GM and a the other in a 2002 Ford motor home. One is about 2 years old and the other used about 3 years. I am having an issue of the digital display not reading all the time with the brake pedal. Digital works fine using the manual, just not normal braking. The brakes seem to be working, but I am having a hard time trusting either controller. This didnt start happening until recent. Is that about the life of this controller or is there something I should look for?

It could be that something internally is messed up with your Prodigy P2 # 90885 but it is weird that they both started acting up at the same time. There are a few things that we can check first to see if it is the brake controller or some wiring on your vehicles. Start off by checking the stoplight/CHMSL fuse to ensure that it is in good working order.
Since the display is reading just fine during the use of the manual override I would try testing the wire that the red wire on your P2s is connected to. This is the wire that carries the stop light switch function and only lights up when your brake pedal is pressed. Try pressing the brake pedal while testing that wire with a circuit tester like part # PTW2992 to make sure that you are getting power every time you press the pedal.
If you are getting consistent power then there is most likely something internally broken and it should be covered under the limited lifetime warranty. If you aren't getting consistent power then that is your problem and you will want to connect the red wire from the P2 to a different circuit that only receives power when the brake pedal is pressed (like a third brake light).
