Recommended Weight Distribution for Coleman Camper With 7,600 lb GVWR
Question:
We have a 2013 Silverado Crew Cab Short Box 5.3L and 3.42 Axle with factory towing package. It shows as having a towing limit of 9500LBS ... We are buying a 2019 Coleman 2515RL that has a hitch weight of around 600LBS. Which would be the best weight distribution hitch with sway control for that setup in your opinion? I have not needed one for our popup but since we are upgrading I want to make sure it is a safe tow. Thanks in advance,

A weight distribution hitch is recommended if your loaded trailer has a GVWR of more than half the weight of your tow vehicle and because your Coleman Light 2515RL has, according to my research, a GVWR of 7,600 lbs a weight distribution system with sway control will definitely help ensure you have a safe towing experience.
The best weight distribution system will depend on your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2013 Chevy Silverado.
The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the etrailer scale # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your Silverado and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
Based on the 7,600 lb GVWR of your Coleman 2515RL a good estimate for your total tongue weight is somewhere in the 1,000 lb range; if so, I recommend the Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET. This system has a TTW range between 800 lbs and 1,200 lbs, uses clamp-on brackets so you won't have to drill along your trailer frame, allows you to back up with the system on, and prevents sway instead of just manages it with 4 points of sway control via friction in the spring bars.
Our customers who have used this system regard it very highly, with well over 200 reviews it has averaged nearly 5 out of 5 stars, as you can see on the product page. This system comes with everything you need for installation though it is recommended you use thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 to help install the hitch ball.
