Should Geardeck 17 Enclosed Carrier part # H00604 be Used with Hitch Adapter
Question:
I want to order this unit to carry a Green Mountain portable pellet grill and tabletop Icemaker. I like the idea of not having to lift these items up and over the lid to place in the box. I need 21” vertical height for the pellet grill. I am using an 8” rise hitch adapter that allows me to use a Hollywood bike rack for 2 fat tire bikes and had decent clearance for the hood of my Mini Cooper when making turns. I want this to replace the bike rack but I am concerned that the box won’t provide this vertical clearance. I could use another 8” rise in the top receptor to give me a higher clearance but don’t know if this is acceptable. Thoughts??? Thanks

We do not recommend using the GearDeck Enclosed Carrier part # H00604 with a hitch adapter like a riser as it will cut the capacity by 50 percent for most applications. Now for what you described of using two hitch adapters we would definitely not recommend that as that would be just a bad idea all around. Especially in a lower capacity hitch like what you have installed on your 2009 Mini Clubman. You should note that this only fits 2 inch hitches and your Mini Clubman would have a 1-1/4 inch hitch.
