Troubleshooting Brake Controller Install that Shows SH and PL on Display

Question:

towing a 2007 Keystone Copper Canyon 5th wheel. The brake controller Primus IQ is showing codes for short SH and power loss PL. Ive replaced the connector on the truck and the pig tail on the trailer the 2 easiest possible solutions. Ive even borrowed a Prodigy and its showing the same codes. the brakes are getting voltage, and the problem is intermittent - the codes are not constant. In some instances, Ill press on the brake, the display #s start to increase and then the codes appear. Im thinking i might just replace the wiring to the brakes since the existing wiring is internal to the trailer and a pain to get to. can you suggest where to start to look for a short or bad ground before i replace the wiring?

It's a short for sure on the vehicle side of your wiring for the brake controller. Most likely it's where the brake controller splices into the truck's wiring. Check the connections you made to install the controller to the vehicle. This would be especially likely if you hardwired the brake controller to the vehicle. Aside from that it would be tracing the wiring to the rear of the vehicle.
