Why is My Trailer Wired with 24 Volt Electricity
Question:
I just purchased a 2005 Fleetwood Pioneer, 20 ft, and the batteries are connected in series vs parellel. Why would you use batteries connected in series? I know your output increases to 24v, but what are the advantages?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The main reason that trailer manufacturers use a 24 volt system over a 12 volt system is because of the reduced wiring cost. Increasing the voltage of a system will cause a reduction in current which in turn reduces the size or gauge of wire needed. The other benefit is its compatibility with AC current more so than that of a 12 volt system.
