Can Holes be Drilled in Titan Hitch Box Extension

Question:

I would like to use this hitch extension to tow 2 different trailers. I have used hitch extensions in the past and I realize they put a tremendous downward force on the rear of the truck especially when a weight distribution hitch is not used. I will be towing a V-nose trailer that does not have sufficient exposed frame to use a WD hitch so I want to keep the hitch extension as short as possible. The 41 inch length of the RP45018 will work for my lighter trailer I dont need the 48inch option but am wondering if, after removing the excess length, could a new hitch pin hole be drilled 3 inch closer to the 2inch end of the extension to give me a 41 inch and a 38 inch extension.

Although you can cut the Titan Hitch Box Extension # RP45018 down to 41" I cannot recommend drilling a new hitch pin hole three inches closer to give you a 38" extension as it was not designed for or tested with drilled hitch pin holes; this would also void the product's warranty.

If you need a shorter extension the Curt Hitch Extension and Reducer for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches # C45048 is a 34" extension that has a capacity of 4,500 lbs (6,000 lbs with weight distribution) and tongue weight capacity of 450 lbs (600 lbs with weight distribution).
