Replacement Axle for a 2016 Bigfoot Travel Trailer
Question:
Hi, I have a Standens 4 inch axle on my 2016 Bigfoot travel trailer. I would like to replace this axle with a 5200 or 6000 lb Dexter straight axle in order to improve ground clearance. Im having trouble matching the size however. The details of the current axle are below. Since the old axle is still on the trailer, I am having difficulty getting exact measurements, but it seems to be around 66.5 inches from spring center to spring center, and around 77.5 inches from hub face to hub face. Are you able to give me a recommendation on what replacement axle to purchase? The full details of my current axle from the axle stamp are listed below. Standens LTD, Calgary AB, Type 13 HRM 6-44, Max Cap 4400 LB, SLR 13.3, SN A66701

I do have an option for you but we do not currently offer a Dexter straight axle with the spring center and hub face dimensions that you provided. However, we do have the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System part # TASR5200S03 which will replace both the axle and leaf springs. This system is actually going to be better than a standard straight axle as it has aeon springs which work to absorb road shock and support the trailer's load better than a standard straight axle. This system also has a 4" lift which should give you the additional ground clearance you are after.
Since you are going from a 4,400 lb axle to a 5,200 lbs axle you will need to replace the hubs/drums and possibly the brakes. If you can let me know what type of brakes you have and your bolt pattern, I would be happy to offer additional recommendations for you.
