Fit of Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 6,000 lb E-Z Lube Axles
Question:
Dexter 8-213 hubs on 6000# trailer axle with E-Z Lube 6 Lug Refer to attached two photos: one of a new hub with race pre-installed the other of an old hub with no race. In the new hub, the outer race sits just below a ridge in the casting. In my old hub, that ridge is not there, the diameter does not decrease, so it calls for a different race. Both hubs are stamped 8-213. What is the significance of the difference? If I have two new hubs can I change out one complete axle with the different style hub?

Your photos did not come through but I think I can still answer your question.
The hubs you get must be compatible with your spindle, and that means you will need to look at your hub bearings; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use a digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.
Additionally, you need to know your hub's wheel bolt pattern; if you do not know what it is I have added a help article which details how you can find it. Knowing this information is the only way you can get correct replacement hubs.
For example, the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 5,200 lb to 6,000 lb E-Z Lube Axles # 8-213-5UC1-EZ has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and has inner bearing 25580 which has a 1.75" inner diameter, outer bearing LM67048 which has a 1.25" inner diameter and grease seal 10-10 which has a 2.125" inner diameter and 3.376" outer diameter. If your spindle matches these measurements you would be able to use this hub.
