Recommended Hitch Adapter for 2011 Subaru Forester for Trailer and Bike Rack
Question:
Thank you for your recommendation of the Saris Freedom for my 2011 Subaru Forester and 55 lb ebike. I also tow a Sylvan Go tent trailer. Can you recommend a double hitch ?

Along with the Saris Freedom EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4412B which weighs 22.5 lbs, I recommend the Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter, 8" Extension # D-192 which is rated for 350 lbs tongue weight total and 3,500 lbs towing weight. I recommend hitch lock # e98880 for this solid shank adapter.
Another option is the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers - 7,500 lbs # D210. This adapter has a 750 lb tongue weight capacity and have the integrated ball mount. You will most likely want the hitch ball # 63845 for this adapter. I recommend the anti-rattle hitch lock # 63232 for this ball mount.
Using either option with reduce your hitch's tongue weight rating by 50%, which most likely will be the restriction for the max tongue weight. Based on your trailer and bike with rack, this shouldn't be an issue.
