How to Pick Out Replacement Weight Distribution System for Older Reese Kit
Question:
I have a Reese shank #54990 with a ball mount head with a number of 55520 on the casting. There are no other identifying marks or labels that I can find on it. Are there replacement trunnion bars that are available or am i better off buying a whole new system or is there additional information that you would need to make that determination?

I do have a solution for you but what you currently have is an older system and unfortunately there are no longer replacement parts for it. The available replacement trunnions will either be too large or too small for the bars that you have now.
What you will need to do is replace the entire system at this point.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
Once you know your tongue weight you will want to check out the link I attached that has all of the weight distribution systems we carry. You will be able to select your tongue weight from the filters to see what would be rated for your setup.
