Will Jacking Up Trailer with Spring Bars Connected Damage Them

Question:

I got my new and first camper..when I got home I forgot to unhook the weight distribution bars and I started cranking on the jack. The rear of my truck started to lift up as it appeared stuck. I then realized I forgot to unhook the weight bars. I’m wondering what the chances of bending any part, hitch mechanisms? I did not have the friction bars just the weight bars. And one more question backing with just the weight bars is okay correct? Thanks for the help , I appreciate it!

Most likely you are fine. A lot of people will use the trailer jack to lift up the rear suspension of the vehicle to make installing the spring bars easier. Sounds like you just went a little too far. I'd recommend inspecting the whole setup though and as long as everything looks fine and nothings bent you'd be fine.

Backing up a trailer with a weight distribution system is also fine too as long as you stay in mainly a straight line. If you jackknife the trailer you could damage the load bars. Moving them up and down is not as likely to damage them because they are made for that tension.
