Im having trouble finding what the instructions describe as metal rails running fore/aft inside trunk/rear compartment . Can you send details to help me get started? Thank you.

Thank you for the photo. The installation of Curt hitch # C11179 on your 2000 BMW 5 Series does say to "Note on either side of tire well formed metal 'rails' running fore/aft inside trunk/rear compartment.
I have shown on your photo where these "rails" are, though it is easy to get confused by this because they don't look like rails in the traditional sense.
