48 inch Extension Recommendation for Towing Horse Trailer with 2009 Ford F-350

Question:

I have a 2009 Ford F-350 Superduty with a factory class 5 hitch. I measured the outside diameter of the hith and it is 2.5”. The inside diameter of the opening on the hitch is 2”. Will this fit properly? Also, I’m using this with a bed camper and want to tow a dual axle 2 horse trailer rated at 12,500lbs. Tow horses are in the neighborhood of 2500lbs plus the trailer itself. Is this long of an extension acceptable to tow that? Thanks!

You have a 2 inch hitch since the hitch opening you measured is 2 inches by 2 inches. So the extender you mentioned would not fit since it needs a 2-1/2 inch hitch.

There's really only one solution we have and it requires you replacing your hitch with the Torklift # TLF1002 so that you can use a higher rated hitch extension like the SuperTruss part # TLE1548 which is also 48 inches in length.

You'll have to use a weight distribution system too so that you have the needed weight capacity. You would be limited to 12,000 lbs with this truss but that's pretty close to your trailer max rating. For a WD system you'd want the part # RP66542 and you'd be set.
