Older Backup Camera with Mutliplexer Box Shows Yellow or White-Out on Monitor
Question:
My rear view system developed Yellow/White out within the last two days. Early symptoms included slow start up when first turned on. The system has worked perfectly for about 5 years. I would like to replace as few parts as possible due to the difficulty of running new wires. Does it seem possible that the multiplexer box has failed? If so, is it possible to restore service with a new box in an older system? My truck is virtually blind in the rear and I have come to depend on the system. I would like to fix this as soon as possible due to the danger of operating without.

What I recommend is to start by replacing the camera with something such as # VCMS17B. Basically one component at a time. So you could hardwire in a new camera to the wiring that is already installed. If the problem continues then you could move on to other components.
The camera, since it is exposed to the elements, is most likely the part that needs to be replaced. Should the multiplexer box need replacing it can get a little trickier if the existing wiring you have isn't really a match for the new box.
What is the brand of the system you have now? How many cameras operate with the box? Usually the boxes are used for multiple cameras and/or when recording (like for a dash camera).
Another option is to replace the system with a wireless system such as # RVS-155W. This way you won't have to run any wiring, you won't have to worry about the box, and you will get all new parts.
