etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit Compatibility with Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch on a 2006 BMW X5
Question:
I have a 2006 BMW X3 and just bought a Reese Towpower Class III Towing Starter Kit. Does anyone know if this will fit the car?

The etrailer.com ball mount kit you referred to would likely be a great choice. Its compatibility would depend largely on the height of your trailer coupler when the trailer is level. You'll want to choose a ball mount with the proper height so the trailer is sitting level. To determine the correct height ball mount you'll need you'll need to measure the heights of the hitch and the coupler, then determine the height difference. The height difference will equal the rise or the drop you'll need. I'll link you to an FAQ article that shows how to take these measurements.
You will also want to install a trailer tow wiring harness, # 119250KIT, on your X5 to complete your towing setup. I have included directions for you to review, for installation of this harness.
We have an installation video for the BMW X5 that should help with installation of the harness on your vehicle.
