Are Side Rails Required for the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top on a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class
Question:
The rack directions recommend attaching the top using roof rails, but the GLA does not come with raised rails - buying racks for the rails is an option but not my preference as I do not need racks. With that in mind, can you attach the rack top using the Hatch Anchors? The Hatch Anchors would be installed under the spoiler which is not metal - it is made of the same plastic material that the bumper is made of. I was concerned that the spoiler would not be strong enough for the bike rack.

According to Hollywood Rack, the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier part # HRF2 can be installed on your 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class using the included hatch hugger straps. There will not be any downward pressure on the spoiler with the hatch huggers so even if you do not have side rails on your GLA, you can still use this bike rack.
I have attached a photo for you that shows how the hatch huggers will look once installed so you can see there is no contact with the spoiler.
