If you have a factory 7-Way trailer connector on your 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 you should be able to use a brake controller adapter, like # 3015-P for Tekonsha brake controllers, to plug your brake controller into the factory brake controller port on your vehicle. The factory port is located in a electrical junction box that is located on the drivers side, below the dash, to the left of the brake pedal.
You might want to also check to make sure the blue wire (power wire for 7-Way) and the red wire ( power wire for brake controller) located under the hood, next to the fuse block are connected. Also, that the correct fuses for the power wires are installed in the acccessory fuse block. I am including a link to a FAQ page that will show you how to install a brake controller on your 2003 GMC Sierra and will show where the connections under the hood will need to be made.
If your GMC Sierra does not have a factory 7-Way trailer connector, you will need to also purchase the Pollak Twist-In, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector, part # PK11916. This connector will plug into the wiring socket on your rear bumper and give you the 7-Way connector that is needed for installation of a brake controller.
If your truck is missing the red wire under the hood, which is the power wire to the brake controller you will need to run a wire from the positive post on the accessory fuse block to the black wire on the back of your brake controller with a 30 amp fuse installed next to the post on the accessory block to get power to your brake controller.
