Why Would Shackle Angle Change on Trailer Suspension After Leaf Spring Change

Question:

On level ground should the straps be mostly straight up and down? I replaced shackle hangers and I know I have them within 1 thirty second of inch on length of trailer where originals were. Only thing is on originals there was a tall shackle in center and 2 shorter ones on outside end spring. The new ones i welded on were all tall ones So on level ground 1 of straps is leaning much more than other side of equalizer. Will this work?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Shackles should angle away from the hanger so that as the leaf spring stretches when compressed it can add the added length as needed. If you installed new springs it's not uncommon to see that distance seem smaller since leaf springs have a tendency to stretch over time.
